Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Trimmel ("the app", called PC Optimizer before version 0.2.0) is a free, open source desktop application for Windows that helps you free up disk space, manage startup programs, move installed programs between drives and update drivers. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, where it is stored, and the choices you have.

In short: the app runs entirely on your own computer. The developer operates no servers, receives no data from the app, and does not sell, share or transfer your information to anyone.

1. Information the app accesses

Google account information (only if you sign in with Google)

Note: Google sign-in is optional and is not included in version 0.2.0. This section applies to any version that includes it.

When you click "Sign in with Google", the app requests the standard OpenID Connect scopes openid, email and profile. Google then gives the app:

DataWhy the app needs it
Your nameShown in the sidebar to confirm who is signed in.
Your email addressShown as a tooltip on your name in the sidebar.
Your profile picture URLReceived as part of the profile, not currently displayed or stored.
A unique Google account identifierUsed to confirm the sign-in is valid.

The app does not request or access your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, Contacts or any other Google service or data.

Information on your computer

To do its job, the app reads and, only when you choose an action, changes things on your own PC: temporary files and browser caches (to show their size and delete them), startup entries, the list of installed programs and drivers, and system statistics such as CPU, memory and disk usage. This information is used on your device and is never uploaded.

2. How information is used

3. Storage and security

4. Sharing and disclosure

The app does not share, sell, rent or transfer Google user data or any other personal information to third parties. The only network connections the app makes are to Google (to sign you in, in versions that include sign-in), to Microsoft Windows Update (when you ask it to check for drivers), and to this project's website (when you choose “Check for updates” in Settings, which downloads a small public file listing the latest version number; the app sends no personal information with that request). The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.

5. Google API Services User Data Policy

Trimmel's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Retention and deletion

Because the developer holds none of your data, there is nothing on any server to delete.

7. This website (not the app)

The Trimmel app contains no analytics and sends no usage data. This website, trimmel.app, uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits and clicks so the developer can see which pages and downloads are used.

8. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
